.. _cloud-up-license-types: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ License Types ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This section is a reference describing the license models the portal supports. The license *type* is a property of the *product definition*, not something you choose on the license form. When you create a license, its type is determined by the product you select. For details on creating product definitions, see :ref:`cloud-up-products`; for creating licenses, see :ref:`cloud-up-licenses`. #################### Counted (Floating) #################### A *counted* (also called *floating*) license provides a count of concurrent licenses. The license count you enter sets how many concurrent uses are available across the served population. ------ ########## Nodelocked ########## A *nodelocked* license is tied to a specific machine. The license count for a nodelocked product is fixed at 1. ------ #################### Token-Based #################### *Token-based* licensing draws usage from a defined pool of tokens, governed by a *token definition*. The portal supports two token models: * **Token Unlocked** * **Token Locked** The license count for a token-based product is fixed at 1. ------ ####### Metered ####### A *metered* license uses a counter that decrements as the product is used. A metered product is configured by a *meter definition* with the following fields: * **Counter** — the named counter that is decremented. * **Initial Decrement** — the amount decremented at the start. * **Period** — the interval over which the period decrement applies. * **Period Decrement** — the amount decremented each period. The license count for a metered product is fixed at 1. ------ #################### Named-User Licensing #################### *Named-user* licensing is enabled per product. When enabled, the product definition includes: * **Named User Count** — the number of named users permitted. * **Minimum hours** — the minimum hours a named-user assignment is held.
