Products and Bundles
Every license you create in RLM Cloud is generated from a template called a product definition. A product definition describes the license name, type, version, expiration, and the many optional attributes that appear on the generated license. Before you can add licenses to a server, you must create at least one product definition.
You manage product definitions on the Products page. Any user with View access or higher can open the page and inspect the existing definitions; creating, editing, and deleting definitions require higher access levels, as noted in each section below.
The Products Page
The Products page has two tabs:
Products – the list of individual product definitions.
Bundles – the list of product bundles, which group several products together (see Product Bundles).
On the Products tab, each product definition is shown as a row with the following columns:
Product Name – the display (definition) name you gave the product.
Lic. Name – the RLM license name that appears on the generated LICENSE line.
Version – the product version, or, for a date-based version, the number of months.
Expiration – the expiration setting (permanent, a number of days, or a fixed date).
Lic. Type – Nodelocked, Floating, Token Unlocked, Token Locked, or Metered.
Token Def. – the token definition, for token-based products.
Meter – the meter counter, for metered products.
# of Lic. – the number of licenses created per provision (the license multiplier).
Created – the date the definition was created.
A Search box and a Column dropdown appear above the list. Choose a single column in the dropdown to search only that column, or leave it set to all columns to search everywhere.
A product that has been disabled is shown greyed out with a Disabled chip. A layers icon next to a product indicates that it belongs to one or more bundles; hover over the icon to see which bundles.
Creating and Editing a Product Definition
Press Add Product to open the product form (requires Edit). To change an existing definition, open it from the list; the edit form is the same form, pre-filled with the current values, and requires Manage. In edit mode you can still change the product and license names.
Key Fields
Definition Name – the name used to refer to this product definition in the portal. It must be unique. This is not the name of the license that RLM generates.
Product Name – the RLM license name that appears on the generated LICENSE line. It may not contain spaces, may not begin with the
rlm_prefix, and is limited to 40 characters.License Type – one of:
Nodelocked
Floating
Token Unlocked
Token Locked
Metered
Expiration – choose Permanent, a number of days from license generation, or a fixed date. You may also hide the expiration so that it does not appear on the license-creation form (in which case the then-current value from the product definition is always used).
Version in Generated License – choose Normal and enter a version number in the form n.n, or choose Date-based and enter a number of months after which the date-based version is computed. You can also choose to hide the version, include the issued date, and include the customer name in the generated license.
Meter Definition (metered products only) – set the Counter, Initial Decrement, Period, and Period Decrement.
Token Definition (token products only) – enter the token definition text.
Number of Licenses – the license multiplier applied per provision.
Notes – optional free-form notes.
Roaming – the maximum number of days a license may roam and the maximum number of licenses that may roam.
Named User – enable named-user licensing, set the named-user count, and set the minimum number of hours before a user can be removed from the list.
Share by – share licenses by User, Host, or an ISV string, with a sharing limit.
Enable VM, Enable Terminal Server, Enable Remote Desktop – allow checkout from each of these environments.
Allowed Platforms – restrict the platforms on which the license may be used.
Allowed Timezones – restrict the timezones in which the license may be used.
Additional Options
The form includes a collapsible Additional Options section for less-common license attributes. These include: Contract, Customer, Issuer, Line Item, Password, Server Password, Replace, Start Date, Hold, ID, Client Cache, Min Checkout, User/Host Based, Min Timeout, Min Remove, Soft Limit, and Options.
When you are satisfied with the form, press Save to store the product definition.
Bulk Actions on Products
Select one or more products in the list using their checkboxes to act on several products at once.
Enable / Disable (requires Manage) – enable or disable the selected products. Your selection must be either all-enabled or all-disabled; a mixed selection cannot be acted on. A disabled product cannot be used to create new licenses but is preserved so that you can re-enable it later.
Delete (requires Edit) – delete the selected products. A product cannot be deleted if it belongs to a bundle or if it has any licenses provisioned from it.
Product Bundles
A product bundle groups several product definitions so that they can be licensed together. Open the Bundles tab on the Products page to view existing bundles.
To create a bundle, press the create button on the Bundles tab (requires Edit). To change an existing bundle, open it from the list (requires Manage). The bundle form has these fields:
Bundle Name – a unique name for the bundle.
Description – an optional description. Markdown formatting is supported.
Products – choose the products in the bundle by selecting or dragging products between the Bundle Products list and the All Products list. A bundle must contain at least one product.
When you add a license for a bundle to a server (see Licenses), the portal creates one license for each product in the bundle.
To remove bundles, select them in the list and use the bulk-delete action (requires Edit).
